Nyon

nyonThe human presence in the Nyon region begins in the Neolithic era. Lake resorts are established at the lake. Later, the Helvetians, Celtic people, settle on the Swiss Plateau, territory that includes the region of Nyon. But the origins of the city of Nyon date back to 45 BC.


After conquering Gaul, Julius Caesar decided to plant on the banks of Lake Geneva the Colonia Iulia Equestris. Its urban center, for which we also know the name "Noviodunum" of Celtic origin, is built on the site of the present city of Nyon.

From the beginning of our era, impressive public monuments were built there. The city prospered during the first two centuries AD a decline began around the middle of the third century, but the hill of Nyon will never cease to be inhabited.
